Major Chinese Telecoms Make Large-scale TD-SCDMA Procurement

China's three major telecoms, China Telecom, China Mobile, and China Netcom, have entered into procurement contracts with 15 TD-SCDMA (Time Division-Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access) mobile phone suppliers. Initially, a minimum of 9,000 TD-SCDMA mobile phones will be purchased, with another 10,000 units to be added in December 2006. The price for each mobile phone to be purchased is expected to be 2,500 RMB (US$317.5; US$1 = 7.9 RMB). Aside from LG, Samsung, and Motorola, the other 12 suppliers are domestic vendors, including ZTE, Levono, Datang, Hisense, Haier, Bird, Holley, Amoi, TCL, Longcheer, and other firms.
